What kind of experience do you have with camcorders?
Would you like play this direct into a DVD player?
Do you have a brand preference?
Is the size of the camcorder a big issue or is quality the most important?

Hitachi Camcorder (DZ-MV730A) $216.99 this is the most affordable i know but ofcors the performance varies with the price and for u to comapre ill give u the toop of thte line too

Hitachi Camcorder (DZ-MV730A)

MiniDVD: Record home movies with to 3" DVD-Rs and DVD-RAMs. Playback is easy—simply finalize the disc and play it in compatible DVD players and computers.

Disc navigation: You don't need to rewind or fast forward to find a video clip—miniDVD-RAMs provide a page of thumbnail images that let you skip directly to the scene you want for editing and viewing.

Digital still mode: Shoot digital photographs perfect for email on an MMC or SD™ memory card. Pick up a 128MB or higher memory card to get the most out of your camcorder.

Battery: The included battery provides power for up to an hour of filming. Pick up an extra battery and charger so you don't miss a moment.

2.5" LCD: This 2.5" LCD delivers a clear picture of the action during recording and playback.

Zoom: The 16x optical zoom gets you close to the action while you're filming, and the additional 240x digital zoom lets you hone in on the details before or after shooting.

Quick start: Be ready to go as soon as you put in a disc—this Hitachi MiniDVD camcorder is ready to film in as fast as seven seconds.

Quick mode: Get to the good stuff fast—this mode displays only the most critical menu choices for easy operation.

Widescreen mode: Record video in 16:9 for playback on widescreen TVs.

then the expensive one
MiniDVD format: The Panasonic VDR-D300 899.99 records directly onto DVD-RAM, DVD-RW or DVD-R discs. With DVD-RAM discs you never have to worry about erasing a recording or finding blank space—you can just start recording.

3CCD technology: The same kind of system used in professional broadcast cameras means crisp color reproduction, thanks to a separate CCD for reds, greens, and blues.

One-Touch navigation: The joystick control makes the camera easy to use, allowing you control of all basic operations with one hand.

MEGA O.I.S.: This image stabilization system compensates for hand movement to deliver steady, smooth movies.

Digital still mode: Use your camcorder as a camera to shoot digital images on SD™ memory cards—perfect for email.

3.1 megapixels: The Quad-Density Pixel Distribution technology means you can capture still images with exceptional detail and quality.

Color viewfinder: Allows you to view the image while you shoot as it will appear on screen, and also saves battery life.

2.7" wide LCD: This screen delivers a clear picture of the action during recording and playback. The High Quality 16:9 option allows you to record in wide-screen mode.

Zoom: The 10x optical zoom produces close-up shots with amazing clarity. The digital zoom can be increased to an extraordinary 700x—now that's close up!

Soft skin mode: Smooth out skin in close-up shots to make every subject look great.

USB 2.0 interface: This convenient feature allows you to transfer still pictures and video to your PC at high speed over a USB cable.

but u see it really depends on the megapixel count and some features like image stabilization and the optical zoom capability.

u just need to compare dont relay on the brand its not enough basis for a good camcorder
