The mk part of the straightener is a reference to the model, the mark 4 is the latest model available on the market, however you can still buy the mark 3 version.

The mark 4 comes with a 2 year warranty, improved heat regulator, multi-worl voltage capabilities and a auto switch off mode after 30 minutes on not using it.

check out the following links for some great deals on GHD - cheaper than ebay and from a offical distributor - your warranty will be valid.

the mark 3 is the 2006 model often reffered to as the original ghd hair straightener. the mark 4 is the new 2007 model. It adapts to any voltage in the world, has a rounded barrel and so on. You can read about it here. http://www.greathairdirect.com/

This is what they mean:
Featuring narrow ceramic plates and a smaller curved barrel, the Mini Professional Hair Straightener from ghd is ideal for use on short hair and men's hair or is perfect for creating retro ringlets and spiral curls on long hair.
