Trying to find specific ship my father would have served on in the Coast Guard, when I was born. This would call for being able to locate a roster of the servicemen on any vessel fitting this critera. I have no idea where to start, and no living family member to ask.

You could try contacting the Coast Guard in Portland to see if they have records archived somewhere. If not, you could also try contacting the Maine Historical Society or the Maine State Archives for help. Here are some links:
