In certain areas of the Pacific Ocean, schools of tuna will travel directly below dolphins. Because dolphins are mammals requiring air, the fisherman can see the dolphins when they surface...and immediately know that there should be tuna right below the surfacing dolphins.
So, before the days of "dolphin-safe tuna," fisherman would drop the nets in and around the dolphins in order to catch the tuna below...and they wouldn't care if dolphins were harmed or killed in the process.
Tell your sister that tuna is safe to eat as long as it has a dolphin-safe label on it. Even restaurants that sell tuna on their menu will be able tell her whether or not it is tuna-safe.

Some fishing companies are not as careful as others when catching tuna and making sure there are no dolphins harmed in the process. In either case, dolphins are not canned with your tuna fish. The tuna in your cans are simply that, tuna with water, or oil and a touch of mercury.

There are various types of Tuna (Albacore, Yellow, etc) and none of them are dolphins. Separate and distinct fishes. And not to confused with the mammal Dolphin (Flipper)
