my son will be born in May. What can I say to my daughter to make her understand she's getting a brother? I'm completely confused.

Next time you are around someone else with a very tiny baby or see one in the grocery store, point to the baby and say. Don't you think that baby is cute! awwww cute baby. Should WE get a baby? YES? Ok ! We can get a baby. Mommy will grow one in her tummy in Mommy's special "room" for growing babies....just like I did with you. Don't say stomach cuz many lil kids get confused about that. They have cheerios and peanut butter and jelly in THEIR tummies. Did Mommy eat a baby? No it's in a special room where Mommies grow their babies to keep them safe. Good luck and congratulations sweet heart!

Like the others said, I don't know if there's any way to really prepare her for the baby to come. I like all the other suggestions but it would also be helpful to have a baby come to your house sometime or a few times until you have your baby. That way she will be able to see the baby and learn about how to treat it and sharing toys and most importantly, hopefully she can start getting used to your shared attention.

Good luck!

you can try your best but there is no way that she will understand. i had about the same age gap between my two boys and my eldest seemed like he understood everything that i explained to him . but the day that i bought my youngest kid home he freaked out and now that my youngest is nearly 1 and a half he is getting used to him. my advise to u is to make sure you show your daughter how much you love her now and enjoy your last few months together without sharing your attention. good luck

At that young an age, there may not be much understanding no matter how you explain it. Find some books about becoming a big sister and read them to her everyday.

Try getting a big brother picture book. They have lots on the market. You could try getting a doll and talk about babies and they way that you act around babies (ie gentle, quiet, babies cry). Also, talk about what a big job he will have teaching the baby all kinds of things.
