Puerto Rico is over populated. Badly. So what number of people is the island *supposed* to hold but doesn't?

The actual population is about 4 million. Check this detailed graph: http://tendenciaspr.com/Poblacion/Tablas_poblacion/poblacion/Resumen_Proyeccion_2000_2025.htm.

Back in the 50's the ideal population was 220 persons per square mile of arable land. In the 50's in PR there was about 1473 people per square mile.

In a most recent study they found out that PR has 434 persons per square km, when the ideal would be 57 and compared to the US they have only 30 per square km.

This is the formula to find out the ideal number:
PR has 9104 square km (including neighbor islands).

9104 times 434 (actual population per km2) = 3,951,136 (the actual 4 million)

9104 times 57 = 518,928

Or if we compare it to the "perfect US population" it would be 9104 times 30 = 273,120

In other words PR is greatly overpopulated...
