What would you like for him to do? If it financial, then take him to court to get child custody. Since he works for the gov't if he fails to pay then they can garnish his wages after a time. If its time you are asking for then you really need to look at reality. If he is in the serice, then most likely he is in Iraq or somewhere like that so how do you expect him to spend any time with the child?

Go to your local social services office and tell them what the deal is and they will start court ordered child support I went through the same thing with my daughter's father we were together a short while and than i ended up pregnant and he just ignored the fact i was pregnant and i tried to get up with him to get help but he wouldn't so i went to social services and now he is court ordered to pay it gets pulled out of his check every month. Your son doesn't need a deadbeat dad and you don't need him either.
Good Luck to you and your son.

File a petition in court for child support, and bring the order to the finance office at the personnel center at his base.
