I would think that after a while it might become stale.

Yes it does. Any processed food will spoil after awhile as the ingredients & aditives begin to breakdown. There are expiration dates on the packages for this very reason.

If in doubt, throw it out!

Everything spoils after sometime. Check USE BY on the carton.

If cereal becomes damp it may spoil, otherwise cereal will become stale.
