Why is there a "pop" sound when making wine?

There shouldn't be. Maybe bubbling or gurgling or even fizzing, but no "pop"

Where exactly are you experiencing the "pop?"

The pop sound is carbon dioxide escaping through your airlock on the carboy or fermentation vessel. This needs to escape or you will end up with the base for vinegar.

The escaping air bubbles from fermentation. If you do not have a hose running from sealed cork to a water bottle your bottles can explode! Air must get out.

Keep your pop well back from the fomentation area.
He is obviously affected by the fumes
