Only thing I really dislike about their movies is that...when a couple needs to be screwing, everybody jumps up and starts dancing and singing.

Bollywood movies are made to be entertaining to the Least common denominator of the Indian populace.
They should follow the mantra of Inclusion. (Everything has to be simplified to the extent that someone with an IQ of 3-4 would be able to understand it.)
People wont pay to watch something they dont understand , and the film makers basic objectives of making money wont get fullfilled.
Once they find a theme that worked they have to find a way to use it till its completely flogged and doesnt make money anymore.
Indians would be offended if
1) the hero and heroine didnt get married in the end.
2) they didnt run around the trees making twitching spasmodic motions and screeching.
3) There were no politicians, corrupt cops and ugly unshaven men as villains.
4) The hero was not religious enough to be cannonized.
5) The Heroine wasnt fair complexioned, and good looking.
6) The hero was not related to some ex bollywood star.
7) The heroine was not good enough to win some international beauty pagaent.
8) The story line didnt remind them of a hundred other bollywood movies they watched. (They would be confused)
9) There was an element of doubt!.
10) The movie was shot on an Indian location., or on a foreign location without Hindi speaking caucasians, arabs, chinese or whatever.
People like Satyajit Ray realized that The LCD mentioned above was not worth making movies for.

Unfortunately i don't like any bollywood movies. I won't disclose which country I'm from but bollywood movies do get played on tv here. It's always about love and songs and dancing. I can hardly watch one movie for more than 15 mins. Definitely no favourite stars as all of them have no real acting talents, it's more about looks than anything else. Such things don't impress me and don't keep my attention. I prefer hollywood movies as they have a wide variety of genre from science fiction to medical mysteries to mind boggling thrillers and many more. Movies with good plots are also essential, something which bollywood movies always lack. Also, I prefer movies with good special effects.

Have you seen some of the tripe to come out of Hollywood lately?
I would also wager that unless you are familiar with the culture in India many things are lost in translation. I haven't seen very many Bollywood films though so I am speculating.
