My boyfriend and I have been dating for six months and I knew that he was Jehovah's Witness and he knew that I wasn't one. But one day he broke up with me and told me it was because of his religion. But got back with me about three or four days later. Then a week later he broke up with me for the same reason. But he knew from the beginning that he wasn't suppose to be with me if that's the case. So what is the deal with that?

All Humans can do anything humanly possible that we want. However, we Witnesses know the Bible principle that the phrase "Marry only in the Lord" is based on. It is a good guideline for anyone who is faithful to their beliefs. While it is on one level to serve as way of keeping the congregation clean(The Bible has several examples of faithful ones marrying non believers and going astray). This principle is also a Kindness. For instance. You are Baptist. If you to were to get married and have kids you would want them to take part in hoidays, etc. We Witnesses do not feel it is right to celebrate Christmas, Easter, Holloween etc because these are pagan holidays. It would be unfair all the way around for you and your husband and your children to have the constant struggle of beliefs.

As to the young man in question. It is probably one of 2 things. Either he is trying to do right by his beliefs but is weak and so he is flip flopping. Or. He is just using beliefs as an excuse. If the latter is the case then he is most definitely NOT a Witness. It would be good for you to meet his family as this might shed light on where his loyalties lie.

Also please do not believe the garbage some of the people say on here about Witnesses. We ARE Christian. We follow the Bible as we feel it is clear indicater of Jehovah's wishes. We are not a Cult. If you notice allot of the statements condemning us are contradictory. This is in part because they are baseless lies so it is hard to keep the accusations straight. If you have any concerns or questions about our beliefs ask a Witness in the real world, though not your BF as he seems to not be sure what he believes. You can also go to http://www.watchtower.org

First off, every religion admonishes their members against dating outside their religion. Consider Jews and Catholics, both of which believe they are God's People.

The Bible teaches that dating is for the purpose of marriage. Was that you intent, or were you hoping for the common the standard in most of Christendom, emotional support and lots of sex?

The choice is not between following the teaching of JWs or not, but the teachings of the Bible or not? Yes, witnesses are a lot more strict on this matter than other religions, but no more so than many other religions. Consider the Amish. Their restrictions are far greater than any other group.

The question you need to ask youself is why isn't your own religion teaching you all of the Bible, including the issues related to dating? Are they afraid that you will walk away because it will no longer be any fun?

If your boyfriend is a baptized Witness of Jehovah, he should not be dating you at all. Your boyfriend should know that the Bible clearly states at 1 Corinthians 7:39-40 to 'only marry in the Lord'...that means someone of the same religious faith as you.

Your boyfriend is confused. Jehovah's Witnesses date for the purpose of possible marriage. If your boyfriend is a baptized Witness, he should know that the Bible says to "Marry only in the Lord."

did you get to meet his family, probably not,its what we call living a double life. dating is for finding a marriage mate and we can only marry other ones who believe that Jehovah sent his son Jesus for us to repent and return to him.we would not want to become unevenly yoked with someone that celebrates pagan holidays or accepts false doctrines as the truth.hope this helps.

Jehovah's Witnesses can be quite controlling of their members. While I don't know if is an official teaching of the JWs, they do strongly discourage members dating non-members.

Good luck and have a nice day.

The deal with that is that it was easier for him to tell you that than to explain the real reason he doesnt want to be with you anymore.

A girl did this to me about a year ago. She liked nice things, and I don't have a lot of $$, and she knew it was a shallow reason so she said it was religious differences...I know she was lying.

well if you had sex with him thats why he may have came back. But to answer your question,
there is no religous law thats says one can not marry who they want, Love has no boundries or limit on who can marry who. I think he just said that, as to use his religion as an excuse. I think that law only replys to the jewish faith.
Anyone can marry a catholic or christain or whatever else, may be out there. And it depends on the church.
But the church has no right to deny anyone who they want to marry, Now i know the catholic has a simular rule. that you have to marry a catholic, in order for the marriag to be reconized by the church. but then again it depend on ones belief.
But to be honest, hes just messing with you. forget it, and find someone who will marry you. Regardless of you religion. If he wants to abide by his church then let him.

The stand is don't go near him unless he finds your love can make him convert to your religion. If you don't have one yet, well, come to Jesus and you will be saved. Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life and no one can go to the heavenly father except going through him. If Jesus is just a human, don't follow him. If he is a god, then JW is polytheist. Jesus must be believed as a God of Trinity.
