I thought she was chewing on a piece of raw hide, but it turned out to be a packet of the silica gel. She ingested the whole packet. She's 7 months old and a shih tzu.
I'm worried, but I'm broke and dont have the money to fork over a $200 medical bill, if it turns out that she will be fine.

1) Call your VET. (If they are not in the office..call an EMERGENCY VET.)

2) If you cannot reach a VET.....call your local poison control. Explain that it is about your 3 lb. puppy & is silica gel. They should be able to give you some idea about any danger.

3) The cost is not a factor. Any VET would treat the patient...then worry about the charge. Your shih tzu can become your best friend for the next 12-14 years. Care for it and about it as if it were your brother, sister or child. ACT NOW.

I once had a friend that ate some and she didn't die, but for Christ sake. Call the vet. Don't sit in front of a computer and wait for some random unqualified person to tell you if your dog is going to live or not. That's a small dog, you know, I would say the silica would probably do some damage.

Call your vet. There is no charge to call and request to talk to a vet or have a vet call you back.

They will tell you what steps to take, what to watch for in case you need to bring her in. Most likely they will simply tell you steps to take and signs to watch for in this situation. That's what vets are there, not for just the visits, but to talk with and recieve help in case something like this happens.

Worst case scenario you bring your dog into the vet for an exam and they give you medication. That is under a $100 in most cases.

I brought my dog in to get examined at my vet cost was $40. The medication was seperate, under $100 bucks. Good Luck.

I would still bring it somewhere..or at least call the animal hospital and ask them what to do. You can also call the poison control center near you for info on what to do. I would recommend that the dog eat something with it..it is like alcohol..you don't want to drink it on an empty stomach. Call either the animal hospital or poison control.

Watch her for 2-3 days to make sure she poops OK. If she doesn't, it will be an emergency situation for the vet. If she poops, she's fine. I don't know how much she ate, when you say pack do you mean like the sachets they put in clothes etc? If it was a big pack it could cause problems to her stomach and block her intestines. It is wise to call the vet at least and ask for instructions over the phone.
