To do a system restore click on Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>System Restore.

Now as far as programs. You will lose anything that you have installed since the restore point you select. You have to select one that is in bold.

To put it simply. The system restore works like a time machine. If today is Sunday, you can go back to Thursday and anything that happened after Thursday is erased. You are at that point before you put in that certain program that screwed up your computer. Now if you have a virus this may or may not work. One time, I just ended up doing a hard recovery (complete reformat) which set the computer back to manufacturers specs.

Now you have to look at the time logs on the recovery list. And it shows when you loaded certain games and programs. It is just a matter of going back to the point where your machine worked correctly.

Remember one thing, if you loaded up Sims 2 and the program for one reason or another does not work right. Then you 12 hours later you load up Resident Evil 3 and this works great. Now you decide you want to restore before you loaded up the Sims 2 game, well the Resident Evil 3 would be lost now. Remember, all items loaded after your restore point ARE LOST, DELETED, or BURIED IN THE JERSEY RIVER WITH CEMENT SHOES.
