Ok the facts are, that on average the mixed breed is not as proned to health issues that are genetically passed on from the parents. Why? Cause they are getting a healthy dose of both breeds or several breeds of dogs. This is only the case in mutts that come from 2 diffrent breeds of dogs or dont have closely related parents. With that said, this its not always correct. Mutts that have been bred from 2 parents with health issues are not going to be healthy dogs. Its really in the parents that the health lies not the breed. Many PUREBRED dogs are extremely healthy, if the breeder is responsible and cares for the breed of dog he loves, he will only breed healthy sound dogs. Its the people who want to make money, or have a personal agenda and ignorance that create badly bred dogs. Any time you breed two dogs together, planned or not, you have the potential of having unhealthy dogs born. These dogs should be spayed and nuetered to stop the health problem from being passed on to any potentional puppies. You cant get true FACTS on this... research basically will tell you on average that the mutt is healthier than the purbred, but it boils down to the animal group they are studying, the size of the study, and the fact that they are using a multiple group of diffrent purbred breeders for the study, and a very large diverse group of mutts.

I have been a veterinary tech for 34 going on 35 years I've seen many, many mixes & purebreds.I've seen just as many mixes with hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cancer, kidney disease, heart disease, etc as I have purebreds. Purebreds have gotten a bad rep because of all the irreponsible breeders who don't do health or temperament testing, don't pay attention to pedigrees, don't breed to standard, who only breed just because "they can" I think because of teh bad deals people have gotten from irresponsible breeders that this is where the myth that mixes were healthier then purebreds got it's start. If people who buy purebreds paid more attention to where they got them and who they got them from they would find they would own very healthy, long lived, happy dogs.
As a dog trainer of 35 years I can tell you that mixes don't train any easier and aren't any smarter then purebreds and they certainly don't have any better temepraments then purebreds.Lack of socialization on the breeders part and tehn lack of continued socialization and training is what causes the problems that are often seen.

the objective of responsible breeding is to strengthen the breed and shrink those issues you've indexed. responsible breeders of springer spaniels breed dogs with sound temperaments that adhere to the breed generic. responsible breeders of dalmations grant genetic finding out on their breeding dogs to ward off deafness interior the doggies. responsible breeders of another dogs breed take each precaution to ward off issues of their doggies. there is not any a element you may do about the Hairless chinese Crested. it really is how they were meant to be. definite, they'd want sunblock, even though it is no longer a difficulty. it is how they're, and at the same time as possessing a hairless dogs, it really is a precaution you want to take. the element about breeding mixes is that there is really no generic. responsible breeders breed for advancements. They breed dogs that are mind-blowing examples of their breed and performance tremendous characteristics to make contributions. Breeding a random labrador retriever to a random boxer does no longer something to strengthen both breed, nor does it instruct that the vendors have executed any finding out earlier to breeding. They have not shown or worked their dogs. Why ought to their dogs be bred at the same time as there are such rather some puppy high quality dogs sitting in shelters already because of this difficulty? The type of dogs that we ought to placed down each and each 12 months, the type of dogs in shelters and foster residences on the prompt - it really is why you should spay and neuter those dogs no longer being bred. it really is why you should purely breed dogs that instruct to be mind-blowing examples of their breed. i'm able to't imagine of a unmarried good clarification for breeding a blend. I do exactly not.

Show me one person that has a mixed breed dog that is OFA certified.
The simple reality is that no one tracts health problems in mixed breed dogs, but health problems in pure bred dogs are tracked and documented. So the MYTH that mixed breeds are healthier is the result of only hearing about the problems that pure bred dogs have.

What I hate when people claim this is that they lump all PB breeders together. I doubt that your average carelessly bred PB is an healthier than your average cross. But a carefully bred, health checked PB is going to be healthier than your randomly bred crossbreed. It is just common sense.
People buy a puppy at a flea market or pet shop and then complain that PBs are unhealthy. That is like buying a Ford Focus and being angry it doesn't drive/last like a Cadillac.

here is some info on the health of mixed breeds vs. pure breed
basically if your breeding 2 dogs that have a trail of Hip Dysplasia (sp?) than that mixed breed will be just as likely to have that as an adult.

pure breeds carry most of the same traits therefore they all suffer from basically the same problems. (hip/ joint problems, heart problems, infections, etc) mixed breeds are combinations of these traits. one breed mix of the dog may be likely to problems while the other part is strong at keeping those problems away. so mixing them makes them stronger. the problems and strengths in a way cancel each other out. resulting in their strengths showing more often then faults
