Throughout history we have been told by people that we as a race need to believe in something or someone higher than us. Why can't we be the ones resposible for all that we do.
If we do something evil it is said that satan is telling us to do it, and if we do something good we are told that God had a hand in it.
Before Christianity and Judaism, the gods that the human race believed in were true to them as your God is to you. It was men who told us to stop believing in those gods and believe in this God.
Man wrote the bible, and all the other religious literature. It was their interpetation of the world around them. Now that we know so much more and are learning new things every day, how can we let our lives be run by blind faith.
Just look at the world that we live in today and tell me honestly what is the one thing that divides us. If we are not careful the crusades of the 11th century will look like a footnote of history.

I do have faith, but not in a God. I have great faith in the human race, because we are the ones who will prevail and continue to exsit in this universe. Faith in the human race is something to believe in.

I agree wholeheartedly.... That is exactly the conclusion I came to after learning about religion and god/s... why cant people accept their own responsibility instead of blaming it on supernatural forces. That concept in and of itself convinced me that religion was created by man. The only thing that divides us now is religion... it creates rifts between people of differing faiths, it creates wars, persecution and terrorism in ALL its denominations. It encourages ignorance and narrow-mindedness, and a culture of denial... I hope that in future generations we will evolve past all that and maybe reach some semblance of real enlightenment.

PS Just to clarify so I dont get bashed... religion is not god/s. It is not the belief in god/s which creates strife.. it is the grouping of people into organized and indoctrinated religions that does that. When we seperate and divide people into different groups with different doctrine and dogma, then we create inequality and hence strife. If people just believed in whatever god/s they wanted individually without any grouping into different religious sects then there would not be nearly as many problems.

I look at the world around me and I see God in the skies, in the trees, in the grass and everything in the universe. I see structure and design. I see wisdom and intelligence that made up this life and existence. Then I see that mankind has been destroying all that God has made, the beauty, the goodness and the balance of it. I see divisions because man cannot get past their pride to admit that they ignorant and blind by their own choice.Faith is looking past ourselves and acknowledging that there is a greater intelligence other than what we can comprehend. That the Creator is the One true God.

I think what you are saying is slanted at a couple religions directly. But, even with that said, they are popular religions. It is not that we need someone to blame if we do something wrong or to praise if we do something right, it is that we need someone to be there when we arent doing anything at all. At all times, not to blame or praise necessarily, but to comfort and to give peace. To be an example of love for us to live by. Things like this. I know this is a broad generalization. Sorry for that.

Why do we need a God to define our lives?

- Maybe, just maybe, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that He created us?

No, you'll probably think that is too obvious.

Everything else you write is entirely not true. Talk about setting up a straw man to knock down. What is eating you?

You are one of quite a large number of atheists whose reasoning powers and critical faculties are clearly not being employed.

Why do you so pride yourselves on your reason and cleverness and then are entirely led by your heart?

Please give us something more worthy of answering.

I think in general it makes us feel more fulfilled, believing there is something out there that loves us and is greater than us. It's the need for a spiritual parent.

Man is telling you what you know today too. you don't have real control over your life, you can't decide when the sun is going to rise, or if it should rain today or even if you're going to die today. you have no control!!!,,by the way the bible is the inspire Word of God.
