a 4 year old needs about 12 hours a sleep. So it matters if he gets a nap during the day and what time you are expecting him to get up. It is hard for a child to change a routine of sleep.

A good bed time for a four year old would be 8 or 9 pm and they should remain asleep until 5 or 6 am that way. It would be good to have him on a consistent sleep schedule all week long, so that way he is always energetic and sleepy at the same time each day and having him on this schedule now will help him for when he starts preschool or kindergarten.

A four year old should probably stay up no later than 9 or 10 even on the weekends.
A four year old needs 10 to 12 hours of sleep.

If he is at him mom's more than with you, stick with her bedtime because you will mess up his routine if you don't.
You could talk to her about a more reasonable bed time. It won't be long until he's in school and it would be a good idea to start preparing him for a "school night" bedtime. I think 9 is a good time but you can't just change his bedtime by 2 and half hours. It has to be done gradually and both parents need to be doing the same thing.

My 4 year old goes to bed on her own around 9pm at the latest. Sometimes my parents will let her stay up later, but she will still wake up at 6 in the morning. I think 8 or 9 is a good time to put him to bed if he won't go voluntarily.

Early to bed, early to rise makes a child healthy, wealthy and wise. Ha-Ha, sometimes easier said then done. Ru-teen is very important. What ever you decide you have to be consistent. Your are training good habits. From my experience, I put my children to bed between 7 and 8 P.M. If I waited any longer they would just fight me and get over tired, crabby, crying and I didn't like the frustrating feeling myself so I put the habit to work and it did. Lots of hugs and kisses help too. I use to say to the kids that I could not wait to see them in the morning and hope that they felt the same that's why they had to go to bed. To-marrow will come faster if they go to bed now. I always like to tell them what we would have planned for to-marrow, if they got a good nights rest tonight. Hopefully I gave you some though on this subject. Good Luck. Tina

That is nuts. My son's bedtime (6 years old) is 8:00 on weekdays, since he needs to get up at 6:30 for school and no later than 10:00 on the weekends.
Kids need their sleep, I would talk to the mother and try to come to an agreement

8:00 pm, while he may not be in school yet, its important for him to get onto a schedule that will make it easy for him to be well rested when he does start school. Kids this age still need about 11 hours of sleep per day.

Any child shouldn't go to bed that late. My nephew is sent to bed around 9. If your child is used to going to sleep that late, his body will fight going to sleep that early so it will be hard at first. You should have a talk with his mom and try to comprimise on a better time.
