I have always had this problem - since awful P.E. lessons at school, I remember having chunky calves. But the thing is...I am petite and a size 6-8 so my legs look really out of proportion!
At the same time, if I do some jogging, cycling, etc, I don't really want to turn into some kind of skinny waif (and lose my boobs!). I don't exercise much anyway and I know for sure that my calves are mostly fat, due to the wobble when I walk and the squishiness when I squeeze them. :(

Wendy. Fat calves are sexy. Really sexy.
I love the sight of seeing muscle and tone on a woman's legs. Like most guys with an imagination I fantasise about placing my hands on her waist from behind, gently pulling just such a woman closer to me, slowly moving down until I fall to my knees, riding my hands up her skirt, tearing away her stockings and kissing the back of her legs from the calves up.
Yah - okay girls - give me a thumbs down for perversion - but I'm just being open and honest here! Ask your boyfriends and if they're truthful with you - they'll admit they have the same or similar fantasy! x

Hi im small and my calves are like this as well. But i find the more excercise I do the more muscley they become. But i suppose it may help. Get a stepper or an air walker these are great for toning your lower half and you wont lose weight either if you do the excercises for a few minutes each day a few days a week. The stepper will sound best for you as this just works on your legs mostly and not the rest of your body. But i suppose if we have always had muslcey legs we will never have then skinny because i dont think you can just lose weight off your legs especailly if you are skinny anyways.

Sadly you can't pinpoint a part of your body to lose weight off. If you are already a size 6-8 I would say do NOT diet! If you want to do exercise that won't make your calves bigger, try swimming.
Muscle squishes when you squeeze it too, so don;t worry too much about that.

Hey I sympathize. I too have thick legs.
My solution, I wear knee boots with skirts for as long as I can get away with it. Once the season for wearing boots has past I rarely wear skirts and when I do I wear them pretty long. I know it seem backwards to wear shorter skirts in the fall and winter and longer skirts in the spring and summer; but it is the best way I have found to camouflage my thick legs.
Short of major reconstructive plastic surgery I doubt if there is anything you can do to truly slim thick legs. I would suggest yoga or Pilate's. It will help you tone up and develop the leanest lines that are possible for your body.

Dont leave your calves alone! You can take care of them with some simple daily excercises. The main thing is to make sure you dont make them bigger by doing too many heavy weighted or heavy resistance workouts! Think light and quick.
I have some lowerbody workouts you can try. Email me if you want to talk further on specific excercises.

The cheapest easiest and fastest way to tone your calves and strengthen your muscles and tendons is to stand on the stairs on tip-toe. (you can hold on to something if you wish.) Then lower your heel to just below the level of your toes and then straighten and raise yourself up on to tip-toes again. Repeat until it starts to hurt.
Then either have a rest and repeat or leave it there and do it again the next day. Don't do too much at once or you'll get cramp.
good luck

In the gym they have a machine called the leg press, it works very quickly, my friend who says exact same thing as you worked on her calves, and now is very happy, and works less hard, but keeps them trim.

I'm Anthony. I lost 75 pounds and shed my high school nickname Pudgy. Our family has a tragic history of cardiac disease and rheumatoid arthritis. I am proud to say that family tradition ends with me. I know I have broken the cycle and will never have to be faced with those illnesses. Thank, you have changed my life.
