It is bad. If Islam teaches peace why are the Muslim clerics who preach hatred not reprimanded? How can fatwas be considered peaceful? why are they issued to people who criticize Islam for distorting Islam and not to the radical clerics (since you claim they distort Islam). There are good people and bad people everywhere. I have been taught Islam is the religion of peace. I have not met any evil Muslims yet. And I have been lucky to make really good friends also on line.

I think that it is those extremists who give Islam the bad name. They believe that the only sure way to Paradise is to die in Jihad. That is very scary thing to me.

I am learning about Islam now. I have bought the Quran. I believe that we are here to learn to love one another despite of our differences.

Many Americans are simply into instant gratification, lack of patience etc. Therefore the media is their source of education, most don't question the answers because it's not "popular" to think deeper than the obvious and do the research, and many others claim they don't have the time... like they don't have the time to exercise, time for their families and so on. It took me YEARS to research and understand Islam in depth and come to the respect I have for it... that's not a popular thing in today's society. Popularity is everything to many, and it all goes hand in hand with what's most important to many:

Getting "stuff" and busting butt to get MORE stuff, the latest stuff and the most popular stuff OR trying to understand their fellow humans and the world around them in order to become better stewards of the Earth, environment... so on and so forth.

I would feel alot better about Muslims if the so-called moderate Muslims managed to muster the moral courage to protest 9/11 and other terrorist events, and to boycott MIddle East television stations that broadcast hateful faux-documentaries about Jews drinking the blood of Gentile children, and express outrage at the bombing of the Buddhist temples in Afghanistan, the killing of Olympic athletes, etc. If moderate Muslims exist, they should loudly denounce the usurpation of their religion by hatemongering Islamo-Fascists.
