The rule of thumb is that normally, a person burns about 15 calories per pound per day. For example, if you weight 120 pounds and are normally active, you'll burn 1800 calories per day. Now, if you add some additional load (exercise for example), then you can burn extra calories. For example, walking burns about 100 calories per mile. If you were to walk an extra 2 miles per day (200 calories) and then add the 1800 calories that are your normal burn, you'd be at 2000 calories per day burn.

Well your body burns about 1500-1800 calories a day just by living, such as breathing and stuff. So you really only need to burn about 500 calories a day. Good luck!

Depending on your baseline metabolism, you may burn from 1200 to 3000 calories per day just being alive. Breathing, walking from one room to another, even sleeping.
To figure out your baseline metabolism, you can visit www.fitday.com and take their test. It's a good estimate. Then you should aim to eat the number of calories used by your baseline metabolism, and burn 300 to 500 more per week. That will generally result in 1 to 2 pounds a week lost.

During sleep you burn 60 calories every hour. And during the day you might burn about 1500 calories just by living. So basically i dont even know why people excersize since its so easy to burn calories....but thats just me.
