i have bad allergies, and have ruled out most everything except dust mites... i think this is the problem... i'm sicker in the morning, which could be attributed to dust in the mattress... would a vinyl matress cover help? or do i need to get the antimicrobial one? money is a factor here (full time student)... so i would prefer the vinyl... but not if it isn't going to help at all... thanks for your help.

it will help - but your pillows are more likely the culprits. If you have feathers, you should get them professionally cleaned 2 times a year and always double the pillow cases and change the pillow cases every 2 - 3 days.
If you have foam pillows, you should wash them in the machine every 2 - 3 months and dry them in the dryer - and double case them as well every 2 -3 days. You should also replace them at least every year.with new ones.

I don't see how a vinyl cover will help, you need to take that mattress outside in the full sun for at least 3 hours each side, this will kill those little buggers. I don't like the idea of sleeping with a vinyl cover underneath you, vinyl does not breathe. Kill the mites, clean your room, lift carpeting, open windows and curtains to allow the sunlight and fresh air to flow through the bedroom. Lots of luck to you.

Well, the idea behind the anti microbial ones is that the dust mites get in, but they can't crawl out. My son's allergy doctor made us get him one. If bed wetting was a problem (he was only five when he was diagnosed), the doctor said a vinyl cover would work as well, you just have to make sure to wash your sheets in hot water a couple of times a week. (The dust mites have no where to go).

Hope this helps...you may also want to try Claritin or nose sprays.

u could try the pillow covers since ur face is directly on that and breathing the dust from there. there are pillow cases that cover the pillows to prevent allergies from flaring up so much http://www.allergyconsumerreview.com/acr-55.html
maybe u can focus on that 1st since $ is a problem. as far as the vinyl i guess it could help some but u get what u pay for the more effective ones are more $

Dust mites might be a factor - and covering would help. But, you also need to dust the corners and edges of your floor -- don't forget under your bed.
What kind of pillow are you using? Is it a feather pillow? If it is, you might look at changing it.

My son is allergic to dust and we have a vinyl mattress cover.
It doesn't absorb moisture well, so you might want yourself sweating more at night. Good luck.

Yes, it will help. When I was a child I had really bad allergies, the doctor suggested a matress cover. It seemed to help.

Microbial would be better, but vinyl will work.

Do your best to keep things as clean as possible. And good luck!

I think so, esp. if its a bag. You could use a mattress pad for moisture absorption. Which can be washed. Use bleach when washing bedding, pillows too.

It would be very hot to lay on and not be able to breathe. Get the antimircrobial. What's more important, your health or money?
