If your potassium levels are too low, your doctor may tell you to get more potassium in your diet. Here is a list of food sources for potassium. If you need to restrict your potassium, avoid the foods with moderate to high levels of potassium.:
Foods High in Potassium
Apricots
Artichokes
Avocados
Bananas
Cantaloupe
Cod
Dates
Dry beans (i.e. kidney beans and navy beans)
Figs
Flounder
Greens
Honeydew melons
Kiwi
Lentils
Nuts
Oranges
Peaches
Potatoes**
Prunes
Pumpkins
Raisins
Salmon
Sardines
Potassium-based salt replacements
Tomatoes
Watermelons
** I and my family have had a potassium problem. Do not buy potassium pills. Walmart sells them (It takes about 30 pills to equal one potato peel) plus potassium in chemical pill form is dangerous to you kidneys and bladder.
Yes, The peels of a potato is where the potassium is. (Of course, the peel plus the 1/4 inch of meat just below the peel.
(In sun light, you can actually see the potassium shade on the area just below the peel.)
Bananas - are now grown in potassium defficient soil, - consequently Laboratory test show (mostly) they have very little potassium. - The average Doctor still thinks bananas are high in potassium: they are wrong
Orange juice (especially too much OJ) - is bad for your bladder. It will actually strip some anti-bodies and give you a urinary infection. Or it will strip your good bacteria and give you a yeast infection. - even one glass per day will do this to some people.
A varied source of Potassium is good. However, the absolute best source is the potato peel plus 1/4 inch just under it of course.
