Is it because God is a 'He' in some religious books, or is it because society can't stand the thought of female empowerment?

Timeless, some religions have a female side if Divinity. But they don't get angry when God is referred to as 'He' by other religions.

Okay, well I said 'religious books' because there's the Bible, the Quran, the Torah. I thought those were books. And there's much more books on Christianity and Judaism that refer to God as a 'He'. So yeah, that's why I said 'religious books'. Sorry, I didn't realize using that term would make people so angry.

I don't refer to God as a 'She' to anger people. I do it because in my religion, God is a She. Trust me, I wouldn't go out of my way to anger anyone. I'm not that kind of person.

Well of course I wouldn't refer to the Biblical God as a She. It's my God that's a She.

I think it's a little bit of both. I know the Bible referres to God as a male; God the Father, etc. However, the books in which God is referred to as a male, were written long before women's rights. The only way the writers could convey a strong, monotheiestic deity was by the male sex to help others understand God's powers.
If you think about it, both in Christianity and Islam (the religions that refer God to as male) look down upon women. For Islam, women have to cover every part of their body, and for Christianity, women have a hard time becoming pastors or elders of the church. For them, to see God as a female would completely topple the foundations of the religions.

Don't believe all this 'fear of female empowerment' . . .
You maybe reading the anger into situation . . . most the time people just want it set straight that the Bible makes no referral to God in a feminine construct.
The Bible claims to be the Word of God - Jesus claimed to be God

Beats me. The Universe is held together by Yin/Yang energies. The Creator created the Universe. The Creator therefore possesses both qualities in a perfectly balanced way.

Every opinion or position has a ring of thruth to it, or a ring of falseness. God being a woman rings false and for good reason. Every biblical text says God is a "he", not a she. Woman was made from man, which gave man dominion. It is heresy and sinful to make fun of God and call him a woman or a coward. You question is also sinful and disrespectful to God. I believe it is a mortal sin, like calling God a worthless pile of rat droppings. Shame on you. You will burn in hell forever and then you will be ground into a fine powder and sprinkled into a sea of fire.

As Muslims we believe that God is neither he, nor she.
The only reason that Allah (God) is referred as he, is because of dignity and respect. Allah (God) has no gender.
And to emphasis, the word Allah is a unique word that can not be changed to plural or gender, I mean the word God can be changed to Goddess, and Gods, but Allah can not be.
Hope you understand what I am talking about.
And hope it was helpful.

If you believe in a female/feminine god/goddess, that's fine, but she is not the God of the Bible, so I would only be offended if you refer to THAT God as a "she" in the same way I would be if you started referring to my mother as a "he". It wouldn't have made any difference to me if the God I follow, claimed to be my "Mother" and not my "Father" but, as it is, He says He is my "Father" so to refer to Him in a manner in which He chose not to be defined as, is nothing more than an attack on my God. If you do not believe in the God of the Bible, then you do not offend me, but if you do, then please dont refer to Him as anything other than what He refers to Himself as.

God is a man. He created Man before He created woman. God states that woman will not rule over man in any authorative manner. Why? Because God said so....
1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

Although Jehovah is without gender, the Bible refers to him by using the male pronoun. To refer to him in any other manner would be showing disrespect.
Jesus called God his Father at John 17:3. Why then should God be referred to as "she?"
