The best way to see mental disorders is a series of varying degrees of depression and stress. Mild stress produces an excellent person for creativity and performance. More depression saps the energy and creativity that these people once had as the leave neurosis and become bipolar. There are three levels used to describe Bipolar. Then the imbalance of chemicals made by your own brain plays havoc with the whole control system. The auto brain or lower brain can aggressively access messages that were kept from it earlier. As the depression continues and more and more logic substitutions are made the mind goes into a full psychosis where ideas are disassociated and language decays. The end result of psychosis from severe depression is schizophrenia which has been described as incurable . There are of course are always a few people who have been able to recover mental stability. The greatest learning step required for all levels of depression recovery is to see that society as two groups . Study what you group are in and stay with your own kind to find peace and happiness.

I have no idea what exactly has been causing your depression and anxiety attacks lately but I really think there are simple solutions to your psychological dilemma. I do recommend you to bond with your friends--tell them that you're undergoing a difficult phase in your life right now and you need them to: (1) listen and (2) cooperate with you. Remind them to not bring up sad thoughts about your past that might trigger your attack and speak only about positive things. You should also try going out once in a while (with or without friends)--watch a movie, pray in Church, volunteer, do painting workshops, shop at your favourite clothing store or simply walk your dog at the park. You'll never know what the world can do to you. Honestly, I believe you can overcome this even without your magic counseling and pills. Overcoming depression all about accepting change, seeing the opportunities the world has to offer, who you are now as a person and welcoming people in your life. Goodluck and may God Bless you always.

I have dealt with it too and I have tried paxil, relaxation herb combinations, etc. The medication definitely didn't work, made me worse, and the combinations were ok, but didn;t work well for me either (with the exception of no side effects) However, I would try Vitamin B-12 sublingual tablets (try 2000mcg) a Vitamin B 125 complex, a multivitamin and multi-mineral complex. Sometimes depression is caused by a mineral deficiency, etc. I bought all these and have been feeling better, naturally. I have recommended this to my customers at work and they have given positive feedback. Its like anything else, what works for some isn't for everybody and theres no miracle cure. But give it a try. Go to www.thevitaminshoppe.com to browse products or visit a local health food store. Also by adding organic foods into the diet and cutting out gluten, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, and junk food in general, you will feel better. Hope this helps.

just think about all the people in the world who have nothing will never be anything and are watching there homes and lives being destroyed as we speak, then think about all the victims from the hurricane and what they have lost. Then think about all the people who have lost there loved ones due to ignorant people in the world who kill rape and destroy lives. Then maybe you should think that a sucky love life is not the end of the world, and really you could have it a whole lot worse in life.

I agree with what SKG R says below. I also recommend reading the chapter "The gifts of depression" from the book "Care of the soul" by Thomas Moore. (well actually, the whole book is great).

Please remember that these suggestions are not meant to take the place of talking to a mental health professional - if you ever get the gut feeling that you need one. But they are all excellent starting places.

Exercising can boost your serotonin levels. The monoamines in the brain, such as serotonin and dopamine, have an improved transmission rate when exercising occurs. This is beneficial for those depressed because such chemicals in the brain directly affect one’s mood.
