8pm is when I had my kids go to bed at age 5. As toddlers I had them to bed by 7:30pm. Depending on whether or not they still took naps. If your 5 year old takes a long nap during the day then perhaps 8:30 or 9 at the latest. A child that age needs 10 to 12 hours of sleep if I remember correctly. That's including naps. My 8 year old graduated to 9 pm and will stay there until he is a teenager.
I hope that helps.

A five year old should get at least 10-12 hours of sleep per day. Maybe you can gauge it better that way. I try to get my 3 year old in bed by 8.

Whenever they are tired. Children, like all people, should learn to listen to their bodies. I let my kids go to bed when they want & get up when they want...they always get enough sleep! I go to bed when tired, I don't see why they should be any different. Of course, to be fair, we have no where to go in the AM. If there is somewhere kids MUST go - then I suppose it depends on when they must get up. I'd say a good rule of thumb is make sure they get a good 10 hrs. at that age, anything less in just not enough for a 5 yr. old. Good luck!

I think 8 is a decent bed time for a 5 year old,or maybe 7. It all depends on what time they're getting up in the morning.

well I went to bed at 9:00 since I was 3 up until 4th grade, but anywhere from 8:00 to 9:00 is fine. 10+ hours of sleep are recommended for children. They also have naps.

I think five year olds should go to bed by about 8:00pm and nine year olds 8:40.

Honestly, I don't know. No matter what people say, it all depends on your own kids and how they behave.
I tried training mine to sleep by no later than 9pm. But she sleeps at all different times - 9, 10, 11 and, hey, even 12midnite!!
