Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is awesome. If I would have to choose between the two BJJ is incredible. Facts definitely speak louder than words and BJJ has been proven time and time again to be a superior martial art. BJJ will teach you to absolutely neutralize your opponents attacks. Good Luck!

well i do Kempo Judo Jujitsu and i love it. its deffinatly been a great thing for me and i love my training. so i can tell you from experience that if you take this you won't be sorry. i have a green belt currently so i didn't just start.
as for WingTsun, i have never taken it. so i can't tell you exactly how well it is from my opinion. but this is what i'm doing. i started one then when i get my black belt in Jujitsu i plan on going for my black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu then Taekwondo.
so my advice for you is to start out with one. when you get in a higher rank or acheive a black belt start the other art. then you will hold a black belt in both arts without getting confused with all the techinques. because i have to tell you, there are many and it takes alot to acheive your goal but it will be extremly worth it. trust me! Good Luck! and Stay Focused!

The community gave quiet good answers. I think it depends on your need, you want to quickly knock down the attacker and don't go to jail after that, you can choose WT it can help you do that. WT is a balance system. They teach you pulling and what to do if the attacker did the same to you. The teach you locking and what to do if somebody locked you exactly like that and so on. So you become balance by knowledge and that makes you do not rely too much on physical power but on how to stand, where to stand, where to attack from, how to control him etc. The same for weapons. The same for wrestling.
If you want to give a powerful physical answer and do it with your body, physically, BJJ or what other guys said is best. WT gives no physical power but BJJ or the alike do just that as well. BJJ are strong sports and if WT didn't exist, I would have choose them myself.
I practiced WT for a while, and now some other Wing Chun system. Because I don't want to kill the attackers, I want to make them get killed by their own fear and inability to decrease my calmness and control art in the fight.

I would say learn one first which ever you wish but allow me to suggest Jujitsu. I have been doing Shito Ryu for 3 years and my Sensei decided to teach us Jujitsu for the FIRST time. Its so great. Lets say karate is how you start a fight and Jujitsu is how you finish it.
