I was just told that if I don't believe in God and Jesus I should just keep it to myself. Are there any philosophers or religious scholars who have demonstrated that this is a moral obligation on my part?

I think everyone has a moral obligation to share what they believe is right. Surely, its not always going to be the same as what someone else thinks. I feel I am morally obligated to share the Gospel with others. If there is an Atheist that feels that it is in the best interest of others to stay away from religion, then he should do that as well. I think though, we all (people from every walk of life) forget that we want to HELP others and in the proccess we hurt them. I dont care what belief system you follow, you will NOT ever "convert" someone by being hateful, insulting or even violent.

Interesting. I have been told that believers need to keep quiet about it, but never seen an atheist get it thrown back in their face before. Christians do not have to abide by the "don't ask, don't tell," imperative the PC'ers demand of us. We are commanded by God to tell the Good News. Not to force the unwilling to listen, but if you just happen to hear it or see it on a message board you should be big enough to deal with it. I will say, however, that there are only two times when a person should preach the gospel:
1. In season
2. Out of season

Only id we in this country end the right to express our beliefs freely and openly. So in that case you have the right...but others who have different opinions also have the right....with that right is the obligation to treat others with respect....that is the point that your right may be questioned....if you are not showing respect to the other side and vice versa....my answer here was not directed at you personally because I have no idea how you have expressed yourself....

I had to add this....I have had atheist go door to door in our community to promote an event that they called educational....they have also expressed their opinions vocally on the radio and through newsprint.....just points to ponder

I don't think you should have to keep it to yourself any more than God-believers, Allah-believers, Goddess-worshipers and Christ-followers keep it to themselves. You're just as human as everyone else with the same rights.

Blessed be.

If you keep it to yourself how could we help you in your disbelief? That believer has a moral obligation in helping you, not shun you.

However you should realize that you can be a little insensitive to other peoples beliefs, so why be upset when someone gets upset with you?

That would have to work both ways. I don't see those who believe keeping their mouths shut. In fact I have never heard of an athiest going door to door with pamphlets.

Not a chance. I don't remember the last time an atheist came to my house or stopped me going into a store to try and convert me.

Obviously not. There is no moral obligation that requires you to keep your philosophy to yourself. However, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that no one just told you that, and the remark is meant to provoke a lot of anit-Christian answers.
