Why do women "settle" for the good guys, only after those women have been picked over?

Women treat confident, healthy men like dirt, and run off with abusive, unfaithful "bad boys". Then after those women are damaged goods from their bad boy adventures, they decide that the good guys are okay.

Why do women act this way, and what makes them think that the good guys will settle for them now that they are messed up?

For the same reason guys date girls who expose themselves too much and have virtually no personality, but end up marrying the nice girl who is conservative and has a wonderful personality.
