The prior military training instructor is correct. You will have travel arrangements already established to ship DIRECTLY to your tech school base. Upon completing tech school you are able to take some leave en route to your first duty station. If you are smart, you will apply for the Recruiter's Assistance Program (RAP) so that you can get 12 days additional leave helping your recruiter back in your hometown. If you are a good troop, he/she will probably give you a pretty relaxed schedule. This will allow you to squeeze in addtional time with your family and friends while still conserving your relatively tiny leave balance!

Straight to tech school 99% of the time. Between tech school and your first assignment you are usually allowed to take some leave.

My husband got one day off after basic... and he had to stay in uniform on base... in fact when you get to tech school there will be a period of time that you may not leave base... or walk around base in anything but uniform. My husband had to get special approval from the commander to travel a block off base and spend our wedding night with me... then it was almost a week before he could come visit me again... he couldn't move off base with me for almost three weeks... so in short, no break! You can go straight to tech school if you like.
You will most likely be put of AFI (Awaiting Further Instruction)status until your next class though which means you will just be sitting around bored and cleaning hallways for a while.

There is NO leave time after Basic Training. You go directly from there to your technical training school.

NORMALLY between basic and your first school, you get 2 weeks leave. There ARE exceptions. Ask your recruiter.
