Try these websites: http://www.enature.com/home/
It will let you put your zip code in and find all the birds found in your area.

Also try: http://www.whatbird.com/
This site will allow you to put in characteristics of birds to help you narrow down it;s species.

You can also go with a bird field guide in book form..I prefer National Geographic and Sibleys.

Other than getting an Ohio bird list off the Internet...

The best bird books are either the Peterson Guide or the National Geographic Guide. Avoid getting the inclusive Birds of Eastern North America -- get the one that includes ALL the birds of the USA / Canada. Look for sharp color pictures of the birds on one side of the page and descriptions and maps on the opposite side. The books that have them separated are a pain to use.

I have an Audubon guide -- never use it -- their ID system stinks.

Also your local bookstore should have a collection of birdbooks specific to Ohio. They're good for the beginner, but often do not show the erratics, birds that are rare visitors to your area.
