If you really like this girl... I would try to do something casual like:
"Hey, I heard that __________ movie was really good... you wanna go check it out?"
If something like that is even too forward for you... try getting a group of friends together for a "game" or "card" night. Just sit around and play games...
Then, try to situate yourself next to her... or at least in the same game. That should help spark some conversation and it should be less intimidating seeing as other people are there in case of any moments of silence! It is much less stressful!
Good Luck! I think if she is truly shy, then these might help "break the ice" for some more contact time to help her open up!

ashley is right.. is shes shy around you then she probably likes you too and i bet shes waiting for you to make the first move.. just be confident and think of a nice place to take care.. like.. a restuarant or for a walk or movies anything u think she will like.. be a gentleman and ask her nicely.. dont be shy.. just take control :P its easy! just say "do you have any plans for _________? and then be funny and say somthing like" would u honor me with ur presence?:P" if u try to be a little funny but meaning what u r saying im sure that even if sha has plans to see tom cruise she will cancel it ;p haha :P

that way you know she likes you too ! With her being shy around you . good sign! You could write her a little note to ask her out with the place you will take her and the time

As her to go on a group date - being around other people for the first date will help her feel more secure, and then next date you can go alone.

As a girl im going to tell you we do get kinda shy espically if we know what you're about to do........Does she like you cause if she does'nt she is probably trying to get away from you but if you like her that much pull her aside and ask her and see w hat she says.................GUD LUCK

if shes shy around you, its probably becuase she likes you to. if you talk to her alot then ask her out. if not, start talking to her alot, and then if you think she may like you ask her out. i know when ever im shy around a guy, its becuase im crazy about him!

If she is shy then this should be easy! Just go up to her and say
"hey, do you want to ____________ or something on Friday?"
or you can say " hey, want to do something of your choice on Friday?" Something like that!

I would just ask her if she wants to join me for dinner and a movie, if she says no, then you will know. If she says yes your all set.
