Maybe she got fleas from rodents or birds and they hopped in the house through cracks or open windows? DO NOT use Hartz flea products on her, she could die, there are numerous stories about pets being poisioned. Flea bombing does not work well either. What works well for me is Advantage, you can find it through your vet, some grooming supplies and on the internet. Some people like Frontline, but I prefer Advantage. Also, be sure to wash linens and vaccum too. Please don't bathe kitty in products that are not designed for her such as dishsoap or dog bath. Your cat could ingest residue when grooming. Your local pet store should have lots of great products to choose from. I like Tropiclean Neem Dip and it smells good too.

N N Name's answer is totally wrong. Black is not the only colour that attracts fleas. Anything with blood attracts fleas. Doh!
Anyway. Fleas can come in on your clothing and transfer to Kizzy. Flea collars aren't very effective, so I would go with Frontline. You can get it from the vet. I've got eight cats, and I don't have any problems with fleas since I've been using it.
Also, if she's got fleas, you'll need to de-worm her with Drontal. What happens is this:
Up to half a metre long, the adult tapeworm lives in the cat’s gut. When mature, it starts shedding egg-filled body segments via the cat’s anus. The eggs are eaten by flea larvae living in the cats bedding, carpets etc, and when the adult flea emerges from its pupa, it is already infected with the immature tapeworm. The infected flea bites your cat, the cat reacts by scratching, licking and biting – and as a result, often swallows the flea.
By this circuitous route, the tapeworm finds a new host, and the cycle begins all over again.
Good luck xxxxxx

Fleas can still come into your home via clothing etc. Unusual though as it's not the 'flea season' at the moment. My vet advised me that Frontline flea treatment is not working very well now as the fleas are becoming immune to it. When I got my kitten she already had fleas so I was given STRONGHOLD spot on liquid and the fleas were gone within 24hrs it is also a wormer as well ... ask your vet.

I use frontline on my cat and she is usually flea free. All you do is apply it between their shoulder blades .Lasts up to a month. my cat is also a house cat but still occasional attracts the blighters .
Treat your home also with flea powder especially where Kizzy as been sleeping . Unfortunately all cats will get fleas unless treated regular.
My cat is also jet black and like some one mentioned that fleas are only attracted to black cats .. ummm i have had cats of all colours and believe me fleas are not that fussy over the colour of your cat.

I was told by my vet that flea collars aren't very effective, but there is something you can buy from the pet shop that you drop on to the back of the neck that will kill them. It was called up front, or something. Not quite sure. You also need to treat furniture, bedding etc. Once treated you can now get preventative jabs from the vet

Indoor pets still get fleas. Advantage & Frontline are both good products, and much more effective that a flea collar. They are avalible from your vet or you can get them online from petmeds.com

The color black is the only color that fleas are atracted to. So you may have some difficulty in dealing with your kitty. But DAWN dishwashing liquid is the best treatment of all. You can use it everyother day without worry that you are over medicating your baby. You should get a collor and treat all your carpeted rooms. But this way you can get a handel of the fleas without worry to the cat.

Actually, each home has it's own colony of fleas living in it. I wouldn't be surprised if you found one or two. The best preventative in my view is vacuuming everyday and dusting. Basically, clean the whole house.
