Well I am not sure what city Kevin lives in that he cannot smell the chlorine, but during the drought time in the spring time in Florida you can definitely smell it. It has been done for many many years for the reasons he mentioned.

We live on a well and I do hate to get water at my sons as they are on city chlorinated water. You will probably be drinking more bottled water.

The purpose of the chlorine to kill of bacteria and viruses in the water. Every city uses to chlorine in their water and it is perfectly safe. It is used in such a small amount its not dangerous and you cant taste or smell it. So its not like you will be drinking water from a swimming pool.

I live in Caldwell, Idaho and I can't taste to chlorine in the water, but if I go into Boise I can taste it a little bit.
