Unless a 10 year old has a congenital problem, there should be no concern about whitening teeth at that age. A child that young with very dark staining should see a dentist, NOT using home remedies or following advice of uninformed non-professionals on the internet.

You can use Forever ToothBright. No floride contain ( which can cause cancer when swollowed. Aloe Vera is the main ingredient.
My boyfriend is a smoker and his teeth is very very yellow after using for 3-4 months, he came and tell mi that his teeth is not that yellow already.

I used to use baking soda (make a paste with a little water and brush) then follow with a hydrogen peroxide rinse. Have your child swish it around their mouth as it gets foamy. I used to brush my teeth over the sink to catch the runoff. Then rinse with water.
Just make sure she/he doesn't swallow ANY of the hydrogen peroxide.

hydrogen peroxide is non toxic just foams up a bit. not harmful at all.
