Paracetamol, camera, sunglasses, passport(?), toileteries, a good reading book if a relaxing hol or a guide book if sight seeing.

It matters where your going.
At christmas I spent two weeks with my brother in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt where the temperature even in the middle of winter is about 26 degrees centigrade.
We didn't bother with a suitcase at all. All we took was one item of hand luggage each. Within this hand luggage we had our swimming trunks, a couple of bottles of sun tan lotion, a toothbrush and toothpaste and a couple of changes of underwear. We also had a book each and a pair of sunglasses, and finally for the tropical Red Sea we had a snorkel and mask.
This is all we needed as we spent most of the time in swimming trunks and hence there was no need to take a whole wardrobe of clothes along with us.
It always cracks me up when you see how much luggage some people take with them on holiday. It looks like their emigrating instead of going away for a few days holiday.
Just think how much less fuel would be needed to fly planes (and as a result how much less carbon emissions were generated) if people only took the bare essentials they needed with them on holiday. After all if your clothes become soiled you can always get them cleaned in the hotel.

3-day holiday - It depends where you are going. But I suggest you pack light since you won't waste time unpacking and repacking your suitcase. Just bring... 3 underwear, 3 socks, 2 black pants, and 3 shirts (any kinds since anything matches black pants). Ideally, the shoes you wear on the trip will be good for all 3 days. Then you just need some basic items... Toothbrush, paste, comb. That should do...

6 pairs of pants (underwear, not American trousers!)
2 bras (if you are female - one normal every day and one going out one)
1 nice outfit (or dress) rolled up to avoid creasing
1 easy to fold outfit such as jumper and trousers
3 pairs of socks (or tights)
1 pair of pyjamas
wear comfy shoes while you travel and bring a nice pair
passport / tickets / money / keys / phone and charger
A swimsuit or trunks (if there will be a pool in your hotel)
Travel sized shampoo / conditioner / hairspray (and any other hair products you use) / moisturiser / razor / shave foam / toothpaste / shower gel / mouthwash / body lotion
a toothbrush and floss
face wash / body puff or sponge / make-up bag with make-up (if female) perfume or aftershave
hairbrush
jewellry
I also find it is useful to bring a music player and book for travelling as well as an eye mask and some foam earplugs in case it is noisy or light when you are trying to sleep.
You need to be careful these days if you are travelling on a plane from the Uk as they only allow you 100ml of liquid - this includes toothpaste, shampoo, lipstick etc. so if you are travelling by plane and taking any toiletries at all you will need to check in a bag. You are allowed 1 item of handluggage and 1 item of hold luggage.

you need very little, depends where you're going of course. Swimming cozzie, 2 T-shirts, 3 pairs of undies, one pair shorts, one more formal long trousers, one smart shirt.
Then, to wear on the plane: soft comfortable trousers, another T-shirt, fleece and a rainproof jacket and good walking shoes.
That should cover all eventualities - you won't need a suitcase, might get all this in a backpack.

If you'll be able to wash your clothes, then.. I went overseas for 2 weeks and had only 4 pairs of clothes. It got annoying but you say you only want to carry around one suitcase. Plus you can buy clothes there too! Have fun :)

If you are going up North - plenty of warm clothes. I know it is a stupid answer but how can anyone else know your needs.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO A NUDIST CAMP THE TAKE PLENTY OF SUN TAN LOTION.
See what I mean, if you are serious you must explain what help you need.
