I am now taking Lexapro, 20mg/day. Still depressed, and looking for a new cocktail, a Dr in our family has recommended Lexapro together with Cymbalta, although other Drs have said just use one or the other. Also Wellbutrin, considering taking it with either Lexapro or Cymbalta ... any relevent knowledge or experience appreciated...thanks.

I have taken over a dozen antidepressants: sometimes it takes a while to find what will work best with your body. Follow you doctors suggestions and be carefull! If the symptoms get worse tell someone and get help. This is not playtime it is your life - but remember we have alot of good medicines to help people now, and one of them will be good for you, it is not hopeless

Just be careful. I was on a cocktail of Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Effexor, and Xanax. I gained weight and after a while felt worse that ever. I wasn't thinking clearly and one day just decided to stop it all, without anyone knowing. That was a horrible mistake. I ended up in the hospital for 6 days. The doctors at the hospital put me back on Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Seraquel (sp) and some other that I can't remember . I took them for a while and then because of an illness couldn't hold anything down so (under a doctors care this time) stopped taking everything, I did pretty good for about a year then crashed. My doctor put me on Cymbalta and that was the worse experience I have ever had in my life. I spent months in a suicidal hell. I was in my right mind enough to know that it was just the medicine but it was horrible to feel like that . I can't even describe it!! And I couldn't stop taking it because the side effects from stopping it are worse that the symptoms I had while taking it. Finally, I just had to let everyone know that I was going to stop taking it and that I was going to be sick for a few days. I am so glad that I stopped but the withdrawl was terrible. So be careful if you are going to take it. I know that it might not affect you in the same way but if you try to stop you will have simular withdrawl symptoms. I am really not trying to scare you, just please do your research before starting this med.

I took lexapro for a couple of years and it worked but after a while it didn't seem to work as well. I changed to wellbutrin...big mistake for me. Mood swings, suicidal, couldn't tell difference between my dreams and reality, pshycotic episodes. Needless to say I came off it after about two weeks. I'm on cymbalta now and it works pretty well. I don't know about a combination of meds and would be sure to a couple of educated opinions(psychiatrists or pharmacists) about that before I tried it. It's good that you recognize you need a change, some people don't. Keep plugging away and you'll find what works for you. Good luck!

Is Lexapro better to take than Cymbalta because of less side effects?
