because i got this awesome phone from europe and it doesn't work

Let me understand and then reply.

1. If you are referring to land line, phone from Europe should work in the USA. You will need to change the power adapter though. Europe uses 240V and the USA uses 110V. But you can buy power adapter from any Radioshack.

2. If you are referring to mobile phone, Europe uses GSM and at a diff rent frequency. If you buy a 4 Band unlocked GSM phone from Europe and use Cingular, AT&T or T-Mobile, you should be able to use it here. Verizon and Sprint(Nextel) use CDMA

There are GSM networks in the US (Cingular and T-Mobile) so it should work. Your phone needs to be tri or quad band as the US use different frequencies to the rest of the world.

The main cell phone technology in the US is CDMA which can't be used with GSM phones.
