Forget IE 7, but don't remove it. Updating and all can be done only with IE.

(1) your current security settings prohibit running active x or (2) you have blocked a publisher of one of the controls as a result the page may not display correctly

Active X is not allowed by default in IE7
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/essentials/whatsnew/whatsnew_70_sdk.asp
"Microsoft ActiveX Opt-InInternet Explorer 7 disables all ActiveX controls which were not used in Internet Explorer 6. When users encounter an ActiveX control for the first time, they will see a gold bar asking if they want to use the control. Users can then selectively allow or prevent running the control. Note: By default, the ActiveX Opt-in does not apply to Intranet and Trusted Site zones; new controls on those zones, along with a list of preapproved controls, also run without prompting."

Why don't you go into internet options and enable active X after you've checked that anti-spyware like spybot hasn't blocked the active X controls?
This site talks you through it.

However you don't really want to accept all OLE as they can have malware. Also. What do you mean by downloading activeX? It is an OLE browser object permitting different things embedded in the webpage to control your browser etc. They are all different. You may be getting mixed up with direct x which is completely different.
Also it may not be the active X at all. It could be not having the latest java or just IE7 which seems prone to random crashes.
Do you mean uninstall and revert back to ie6 or completely uninstall IE. You can revert back to IE6 like this
1. Click “Start,” and then click “Control Panel.”
2. Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
3. Check “Show Updates” at the top of the dialog box.
4. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click “Change/Remove.”
8. Install IE6

As for removing E completely. It is part of explorer or used to be. Remove it and stuff might not work. There are registry tweaks and apps to do it but you don't need to.
If you have a legal copy of the MS installation disk and have removed IE7 then you can bung in a new install but make sure you enable activex and don't let any anti spyware block it. Then you'll have a working IE7 and all the viruses ubder the sun.
Personally I'd stick with firefox. IE7 is just basically a firefox copy.

Un-installing IE7 from your system does not cause any problem. Go ahead without worrying about anything. Re-installing IE 7 seems to be the best solution in your case. Good Luck !!

You CAN uninstall IE7, it will revert back to IE6. Add/Remove Programs has this in control panel. You may have the beta version of IE7.

I would also try running some anti-spyware scan and virus scan.

Start-->Run-->sfc /scannow will check for any damaged system files.

A reinstallation of IE7 will do most of the time. Is ur XP genuine? Cos i had the problem with one of mine. It never went off so i formatted my computer and reinstalled. But in your case completely remove IE, redownload and install. Download only from MS site. www.microsoft.com/windows/ie

As already advised I would take IE7 off and reinstall it and see if that works, if it still plays up I would recommend getting maxthon as a multi tabbed browser and its free.
