Some of them used to be people's souls who used to be people that abused cats in a previous lifetime and now they are reincarnated as cats finding out what it is like to be vulnerable.
Others of them, their souls used to be tigers or lions or even vicious dogsin a previous life and they are also reincarnated as house cats and learning how to be vulnerable.
Others of them were people who killed themselves in a previous lifetime and were reincarnated as cats and now just want to be pampered in a home with a nice person, being fed, petted, reassured that they are safe and sound and not have to go to work everyday because that was too stressful for them before.Now they are encouraging their owners to stick it out and work through adversity not do what they did by keeping their owner company and making them laugh.They also teach people to be flexible if a vase should go crash (when they run into it) or if a dinner is ruined (because they jumped on a counter and ate it).
Other cats are really aliens from another planet (according to the tabloids) and they report back to their superiors regularly what their people are up to here...
How's that? You can extrapolate from there.

Some Egyptians believe that the cats were sent from the heavens to watch human behavior. That one of the Gods thought that we would damage the earth more so than give back ( he might have been right). So he created the cat, distant, strong minded, a loner most often than not. To watch over us and report back to the God. They say that by looking into a cats eyes that it can see into our very soul, and know us better than we know ourselves. Cats needed no one to exist and the Egyptians thought that to be power, and wanted to harness it, by domesticating them as pets.

The "fact" that a cat ALWAYS lands on it's feet is a myth.
While it's true that if a cat jumps from something say 6 or 7 feet high, it will twist it's body in mid air to assure that it will land on it's feet.
BUT, if it falls from a great height it does NOT always land on it's feet.

Do some searches in the library or internet about ancient Egyptian culture and religion. They are thought to be the first humans to domesticate cats and their religion revolved around cats.

One is that cats will suck the life out of a baby while it is sleeping. My mom still believes in that one because she woke up one night and found my cat (who does not like her) sitting on her chest starting at her face.
I know I have seen it in low budget movies as well.
