I would seriously recommend getting a pretty shade of highlight or lowlight (such as a golden brown for a highlight or a darker brown, almost black for a lowlight) before I would ever recommend that someone do the two-toned hair look. It's very immature in appearance and looks rather tacky. (not to mention that if the color is a stark contrast underneath to the one on top you end up looking like a skunk.) If you go by trends, it's not really in style right now either.

Dark dark brown or a close shade to black. Maybe deep purple? I've seen some ppl with hot pink or red under and it looks pretty cool. What kind of look are you going for? Sophisticated or eye-catching?

I have dark brown hair naturally and last year i dyed it all over a darker brown and underneasth bleach blonde, it looked fab, but when i went to dye it over i ended up with some seriously uneven colouring. If you're going to do it, make sure that you can un do it.
Good luck!!!

Don't... It looks really tacky but if you must I would try Mahogany or a dark Mocha color.
