Why do women soldiers still face discrimination?

I have a 18yr old daughter that is with an elite Army plattoon. The guys in her group don't want a girl with them even though she is smarter and more trained than any of them. They have physically hit her and the staff seargant of one of the plattons have asked her out.
She is scared that these guys won't watch her back in Iraq and I am afraid I agree. Why do women soliders still face discrimination? They do everything the guys do now including dying for our country.
Any suggestions on how she can deal with this. She is headed to the front lines in March and she is afraid if she tells on these people she will be treated worse by the Army.It's sad when you are going to war and you can't trust your fellow soldiers.

Write to your Congress. A Congressional will stop all of their nonsense! Back in the 1970's I was one of the first females placed in an Infantry Unit. They didn't want us either, but we learned how to jack them up from within and without, meaning mothers and fathers exposing it! She must be very Intelligent to get into that Unit. They will either start rumors that she is loose, because she won't "sleep with any of them" or do as you say they have already done. Sounds like it is time for you to have a Press Conference Mom on your daughter's behalf!

Contact American Legion and The Women's Army Corp in Virginia. Letters from them make knuckle-dragging Neanderthals Back up! If she can hold her own. She is going to have to demand respect. Turn them over to the National Organization of Women. That should stop them cold.

I've heard of military women who complained harrassment because they had menstrual cramps and didn't want to do Physical fitness and were made to do it anyway.There is a lot less harrassment in the military than in the past. Military personell will always protect eachother no matter if you're male or female.Get real.

I am a veteran myself and no offense but it would be impossible for her to be in an elite platoon because women are not allowed in combat MOS's (jobs). In all actuality, I have only been out 4 yrs and when i was in women got preferential treatment as opposed to what you say. They were allowed to come back from the field every 3 days to shower and we had to stay the entire month without a shower. They were not yelled at as much or forced to the same standards physically as we were. So, I find it hard to believe all of this unless she has done something to bring this on. I hope things get better for your daughter but I still believe female soldiers get better treatment than us males. I didn't work first hand with any women because I was in the INfantry and its a combat position therefore no women could be in my unit( women are still not allowed to be in combat arms positions) but I knew several and saw them and how they were treated. I do pray for her safety though and thank her for serving our country as well despite my negative comments, i support all of my fellow soldiers.. man or woman.

It's a fine line nowadays with equality and sensitivity. Hopefully, in stressful situations, these male soldiers will be much more protective of her than she now believes.

I don't know where this latOria got her info at....either she is lying, or whoever told her that is lying. I have spent the most of my 26 years of service with and around Marines, and I've NEVER heard of one case of this.
