Yes age is just a number but a 13 year old is a young child and a 17 year old is a young Adult. 13 is not a legal consenting age even if only dating is involved.

Age is just a number when you're 23 and he's 27, but 13 and 17 it's more than just a number, and if sex is involved, in some jurisdictions, it's statutory rape.
At 17 a person is almost a legal adult, 13 is barely a teenager, immature, not quite ready for a relationship, barely mature enough to know what they want, let alone be involved in something that requires emotions and feelings that some adults have trouble handling.
At thirteen the main focus should be on school and having fun, not dating boys who are almost men, or girls who are almost women.
Sometimes age is more than just a number.

I think 17 is to old for a 13 year old. Age may be just a number, but with age you learn more with experience..I wouldn't want my 13 year old dating a 17 year old..I think 13 is to young to date.

Its not a problem when u know where u stand with him and when u know your limits.13 is a young age..a 17 year old is pretty matured and there are chances that the 17 year old can use the 13 year old for his 'not so innocent' purposes. It's fine when there is a great understanding and mutual respect. But if it comes down to sex, then it's high time to put a stop to it.U have to know the reason why the 17 year old is going out with the 13 year old.Is it love or is it sex?take is easy and good luck:)

he's taking an advantage of her. never date a guy 4 years older than you. It gets you in trouble because at 13 you'e naive and don't know what you want. And the 17 year old takes advantage of her. When you're 25 and the other person is 40 then age is nothing but a number.

age is just a number when you are older like starting from 16 or 17 but a 13 year old girl dating 17 year old dude is right now just wrong. Cuz he is older and he could take advantage of you and 13 is just too young.
take care

If you both were older, a 4 year difference would not mean much at all. But at your young ages, 4 years makes a big difference. Besides that, I think that 13 is not the age for you to start serious dating.

Age is just a number when both of you are over 18 and both are old enough to know when they are being manipulated.
A 13 year old is very naive and trusting of people when the right words are spoken to them.
A 17 year old has begun to learn what those words are and is using it to their advantage.

a 4 year age difference isn't a big deal when you're older. but at 13 you shouldn't really be "dating" anyone. and a 17 year old should find someone their own age.

Though it almost seems so close, a 13 year old is letting go of a Barbie and a 17 year old is thinking college, independence and so forth. Also, think of the legal problems for the older partner. Concentrate in school and talk to your parents. In life, you will see many people come and go. Please do well in school.
