how old is houdini and has he been fixed?????
a male cat will go to mate when he knows there is a female in heat-----and hopefully yo will seehim again. you may not.......there are many predators out there for cats--humans are one--they poison kitties if they do not like them....and dogs, and coyotes and other animals----get him neutered if you ever see him again--keephim indoors, and enjoy kitty....i hope he comes back home.

If he's not neutered then he might have smelled a female cat in your neighborhood who was in heat. Usually cats will return, I hope yours is okay and that he comes back soon. Just keep doing what you are doing, plus hang up some flyers with a picture of your cat and your contact info. And keep calling the animal shelters. If he comes back, and he's not neutered, then get him neutered. Cats have a natural instinct to wander, but getting them spayed/neutered can help a lot.

Even if your cat is domestic he won't forget his instincts when he's roaming about so he won't have too much of a problem finding food or shelter. If he's friendly he's likely sought out someone to take him in for a while (I read that cats usually don't roam furhter than 6 blocks). I would post flyers on mailboxes in your area as I anticpate he hasn't gone too far.
The rare time my cats get out, I call and call for them while shaking a can of Pounce treats, (they recognize the sound and instantly want some). In between you could leave out trace amounts of wet cat food by the door or window where you can see. The smell of food may lure him back - it may make you good friends with the neighbours cats as well!

I agree, he probably went after a female in heat. Yes, put out food, and a kitty house on your porch for shelter from the cold. You can make one out of a large rubbermaid container with a hole cut for a door. I will pray for his safe return. Then, definitely get him neutered if he isn't already.

i bet your cat has not been spayed? when they come into the heat cycle;nothing can stop them, not even a storm or snow ect,,,, he went to find a girlfriend;and hopefully he won;t have to fight 4other toms 'looking for the same reason 'to have some love and some fun...he;ll be back'soon as he gets hungry or comes out of heat,,,when he comes home;get his operation;so you don;t have to go thru this every couple of weeks...good-luck and your kitty will be back.you mite could go out side and call your cat;and open a can of cat food;if he;s around he;ll come running.works for mine ;when they runoff from home.

You could try putting out some food and water. I lost one female that has never come back. Another female ran away, but I found her a few months later and she had 7 kittens in my closet. They are all spayed now.

Usually when cats run out they come back. I don't think he died because one day my cat was out in a snow storm all night and she didn't die (but that was just for one day). I hope he didn't die.
