As of tuesday , if you're flying in or over Canada from the US, yes.
You'll need a passport next year if you drive in or come in by ship to enter Canada if you're from the US and vice versa.
For the Canadians, you can fill out an online passport application apparently and bring it to your passport office with all the pertinent documentation,however be ready for a long , long wait if you go in without that .
Also for Canadians travelling to the US by air ,there's a two month wait if you mail your application in , fyi. Heard that on the CBC this am.

Hi I'm in Canada. You don't need a passport to come into Canada but you need one to get back into the U.S.And I hear that soon you will need one to get in too .....
