This happened to me off and on before my motherboard died. Also it would shut off the computer while I was working unexpectedly. If this is not your problem, then maybe you need new speakers?Just in case if you have similar symptoms as I did, back up your files to disc, because you lose all info when the motherboard dies.

Ok, after checking all connections have no problem, try to open Sounds And Audio Devices in Control Panel. Then click the Audio tab and check if there is still Audio Device instaled.
You can also try to restore your system to a previous date before you encountered that paticular problem.
Open Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Hope that would help you.

go back and reinstall their driver, and then maybe know what you are deleting next time. it can really mess things up sometimes.
