I have been a military wife for all most 10 years. And I think you are just asking for some info about being a military wife not just the benefits you get from them right? Well you do get all the privileges that he receives from the military but you need the dependent I.D. card for them. For dental he has to sign up and pay an extra 7 dollars a month (I think is that amount). Being a new military wife you guys might want to think about signing up for base housing. It can help pay the bills a little easier since you don't pay rent or electricity on base. Also if he gets deployed having other families around you in the same situation can sometimes help you. Also there are lots of jobs on the base you can work at if you don't all ready have a job. Good luck and being a military wife can take alot of understanding and compromise. Don't get mad at him when he can't some home cause he has duty at the barracks or has to go to the field. He is not cheating he is just doing the his job. Good luck. HE WAS HAPPY TO ADD YOU BECAUSE HE GETS EXTRA PAY TO HAVE A SPOUSE AND 1 CHILD AS A DEPENDENT. THE REASON SOME PEOPLE (WIVES) GET OFFENDED IS BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY WOMEN WHO ONLY GET MARRIED TO A MILITARY PERSONNEL FOR THE BENEFITS AND NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE IN LOVE WITH THEM. SO YOUR BASIC BENEFITS ARE MEDICAL AND TO SHOP ON BASE. WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR MEDICAL CHOOSE TRICARE PRIME. IT IS BETTER. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW MARRIAGE.

once you are married, he will take a copy of the marriage certifiocate and your SS# to Personnel and add you to his Page 2 and your information* and all children also need to be entered as well) into DEERS..Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System. Once you are in DEERS, you now officially exist.

You and any children ten years of age or older now get an ID. He needs to be with you to do this. If he is not around to do that due to deployment or training, he has to fillout a form authorizing you to get your IDs.

Once you have the ID, you are Automatically enrolled in Tricare Standard. You have to sign up for Prime. there is no monthly cost for either one, although there are co pays with Standard.

Dental is a seperate issue entirely. there is a monthly cost involved, and the benefits can be limited, although you do get 2 free cleanings per year.

Those are YOUR entitlements. HE is now entitled to BAH at the with dependnat rate, and family seperation when he is away from home base more than 30 days. BAH is for him to help defray the cost of maintaining a home.

There is this great website for military wives. If the questions aren't already answered, the nice ladies will answer them for you. I do hear a lot on the forums that there's lots of gossip around base housing and it scared me into not wanting to live on base. I guess I'll find out for myself, but I don't want rumors spread about me OR my husband. I hope you're a strong person and that you're able to take the deployments and the stress and BS. Read up on the lifestyle, there's this book by the same lady that created the website "Married to the Military" by Meredith Leyva. Your man needs you to be strong for him, for when he can't deal with it anymore.
Good luck!

He was probably eager to add you and all of your kids because that means more money for him.

I know at our base they have a class just for spouses of military members that explains everything. It's called Heartlink. Look into that through the Comm. center or just ask your sponsor..

You get the exact same benefits as the active duty member (your husband)--minus the dental. That's complete medical, BX/PX access, commissary, the gym, HAWC, etc....he has it, you get it!:)
