While it may be safe for a dog to eat bread, it is best if the amount of table food is kept to a minimum. When additional food is added to the diet two problems can arise. First, if the dog eats too much table food, then his diet may no longer be complete and balanced. Second, if he eats table food in addition to his normal ration, he runs the risk of becoming obese. Research has shown that dogs that are lean live longer and healthier lives. To promote a lean, healthy dog just feed him his complete and balanced diet and nothing else.

i work at a vet clinic, and one really useful tool to get pill down a dog is wrap them in a little bit of bread. We have never seen a problem from it. And at lunch time some of my co workers will give their dog a small taste of their sandwich or burger with the bread. Just don't give him too much bread. But a little every once in a while is fine.

Well it all depends on the dog because i have an American stafforide and even though i know i not sposed to eat tape scraps he's like out lilttle garbage compacter the only thing he does get is things that r posion to dog but he hasn't had any gut problems and he almost eats everything we eat including his dog food so i dont know i doubt bread can twist up his gut

I have been feeding bits of bread to my dog, every time I have a sandwich. Not a lot, just little bites. She is now 6.5 years old, and no apparent affects. No chocolate candy. Watch the donuts though, gives her loose bowels.

A piece of bread as the odd treat is okay but yes your wife is right and their stomachs will not necessarily twist but they will definitely bloat out. Don't forget their mechanisms are not the same as ours. Sorry remember everything apart from their correct food in moderation.

I feed our dogs bread once in awhile for a treat - not alot - I think if you give them too much bread their stomach will bloat - moderation is the key!

Brown bread toasted will help keep his energy levels up and isnt harmful. (please note that white bread has virtually no food value for a dog). Ive just looked on three websites reguarding feeding a dog bread and none of them have said its harmful.

Dogs (like humans, bears, pigs, etc.) are omnivores and can eat pretty much anything. That said, their digestion system isn't optimally geared to handle bread, so I wouldn't feed them large quantities of it. There are also other things which they *can* digest but shouldn't go through loads of, eg. milk/dairy products.

Bread should not be fed regurlarly to dogs. Bread is a good tool to use in combating diarrhea in canines.
