I've taken 6 trips to Oz from Pearson Int'l and the average travel time is 26hrs (5hs to Vancouver, 2hr wait, 5hrs to Honolulu, 1hr wait, 12 hrs to Sydney).
It's usually more expensive to fly out of LA than Vancouver but faster (18-21hrs- 6hrs to LA, 3hr wait, 12hrs to Sydney) and American duty free really is duty free!

I flew to Australia last summer. If you are leaving from Los Angeles it is about 14 hours. If you leave from St. Louis, MO, Total time to get ther including layovers is about 24 hours. From Toronto, it would probly be close to 20 hours.... or more. But no matter how long it takes it is soooooo worth it. Australia is an incredible counrty. Beautiful, Breathtaking, and Adventerous. I absolutly loved it. Hope you have a great time.

Assuming you are asking for the time it takes from Toronto (YYZ) .. to Sydney (SYD) then you are looking at a total travel time of 5h 25m to the west coast of the USA (either San Francisco or Los Angeles) and then another 14h 40m to Sydney. Add another two hours to change planes. Total distance is a healthy 9,663 miles.

Depends where in Australia.
Vancouver to Sydney is 18 hours, so add another 2-3 hours to that.
