a fellow that i sub-contract work from showed me 3 tickets totaling a little over $800 he just had received,laughted and said "we will see what happens when i go talk to the chief of police,who just happens to be a good friend of mine for the past 20 years or so" I wonder what the outcome will be?

The cheif can talk to the local city attorney and try to get them dismissed. It is a possibility....it's not right, but it happens.

I would say 6 out of 10 stops I make, the people "know someone". Very rarely do they ever get out of the ticket.

Let's put it this way, if someone is that close of a friend to the Chief, they would not put him in the position to abuse his power. Those who are not that close, and who would do so, will likely got listened to.

I've had them tell me they know the mayor, county judge, game warden, etc. Everyone wants to think they know someone, when they usually don't.

It is against the law to "fix" a ticket, It can be construed as influence peddling, the officer that approaches the states attorney is putting himself in legal jeopardy.
