Do you think it would be ok for a boy and girl to share a largish bedroom if we seperated it into two with a sliding curtain or a partition of some sort?

My children share a room, boy 5 and girl 3. They love it. They will share a room until one of them is uncomfortable with the situation.

As some people have indicated, it really depends on the age AND the age difference between the two kids. Keep in mind that once they reach a certain age (generally the onset of puberty) it is extremely important that boys and girls be separated. Not for any purient reasons, simply for healthy mental and emotional development. (Think back... would you want to share a room with a sibling of the opposite gender when you were 12 or 13?)

What does "largish" mean? How much space will each one have to themselves? Enough for a bed and a dresser or desk? What about closets? I know these don't seem like big deals but it again depends on their ages.

I'd also be curious as to how many rooms your home has. For instance, is there enough rooms for each but you'd prefer to have a guest room or home office?

It depends on the age. My younger brother and I shared a room until I was nine and he was seven. My mother put in the curtained partition when I was seven, though.

Once your kids pass up a certain age, though, it's best if they have their own rooms. Eight or nine is the MAXIMUM age for a boy and girl to share a room. After that, the kids need privacy.

Yes but it depends on their age. Once they hit a certain age im pretty sure its against the law for them to share a bedroom. I think its around 5, but im sure all states are different. Now if you take the large bedroom and build a two smaller bedrooms out of it that would be fine, but you would have to build a wall and all that fun stuff. If the children are very young, then yes you have time to figure out something for when they get older.

It depends how old they are. And it depends on how 'solid' the partition is. Upto secondary school age I'd say fine, but anything older you might have a few problems, particularly from the girl as she will enter puberty earlier than the boy and thus be more self-conscious. If the boy has mates round and she needs to get changed I can see big problems! If you build in a wall i.e. plasterboard, from ceiling to floor it should be fine.

i would say it is ok up to the age of 8 without any form of partition after that age though i would recommend getting a partition as you know what us girls are like! we like to start having a little privacy! i would recommend getting one of those partition walls though so that they can be seperated properly! you wouldn't like the idea of your brother just being the other side of a curtain would you!!!

till about age 8-9 there is no problem to share a room. After that age I would not recommend putting them together , especially that is the age that kids start discovering their bodies

I would say it really depends on their ages and whether they are brother and sister or step brother and sister. If any of the children are over 9 then I would say no definately not, by that age kids needs their privacy especially when they are different sexes. Hope that you get something worked out. Good luck

depends on their ages, but if they are brother and sister I see no problem with this .

Many families were brought up like this in the past. It's quite normal and natural. A lot of Indian and African families would find your question quite amusing.
