Yes being honest with your self is the way to go but that requires you to accept responsibility for the rest of humanity and taking on board the suffering that this entails.

*Self* is never a high form of worship to God. Selfishness is sin, pride is sin, self righteousness is sin... God wants us to be humble repentant and merciful. We are to worship in spirit and in truth. The truth to HIM not what we consider truth to ourselves.
